You know your confidence has uplevelled when you trip on the sidewalk in front of people having coffee and you don’t care.
This is the second time it’s happened in two weeks. When it happened last time I wrote a poem about it and posted it on Instagram.
Am I more confident or am I simply an experienced sidewalk tripper now and know what to expect when I fall: I get back up and carry on with my day. Both times I was wearing platform sandals. Oops! I know my father is reading this and feeling his blood pressure spike. Ne t’inquiètes pas Papa, je ne vais pas me casser une cheville!
At least I didn’t see a dead rat this time.
I’m a 5’1” woman who has finally embraced her true identity as a long lost member of the Spice Girls. There are risks that go with the job. But so many rewards: you don’t have to use a step ladder every time you reach for the salad spinner in the kitchen cupboard and you can yell GIRL POWER! whenever you want.
I haven’t been watching a lot of TV lately. I’ve mentioned several times in this newsletter that I’ve been obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’ve taken a break over the past month and a half because I can’t bring myself to watch the last episode of the series. I don’t want it to end. I’m trying to convince my husband to dress up as Spike for Halloween. He’ll never do it. He hates anything dark or spooky. It wouldn’t work anyways. He’s a Middle Eastern man with a thick black moustache who refuses to wear leather.
Yesterday I was browsing Netflix during lunch and I was thrilled to see one of my favourite reality TV shows come out with a new season.
Have you ever watched I Am Georgina? It’s a show that follows Georgina Rodriguez’s life as soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner and mother to his kids. The show is in Spanish with English subtitles, which I love because I get to practice my Spanish skills. The other thing that I love is that there is barely any plot and there is absolutely NO DRAMA. A reality TV show without stakes or drama? YES. It exists!
The cameras follow Georgina as she drops her kids off at school, attends photoshoots and shops for high end clothes and jewelry. That’s it. In the new season, the family moves to Saudi Arabia after Ronaldo signs with the Al-Nassr team in Ryadh. So Georgina is busy with the move and helping her family settle into their new life.
The confessional scenes are my favourite. She sits on a chair with her tight dresses and gigantic diamond rings and repeats over and over again how life is great, how happy she is and how God protects her WHILE EATING VINEGAR CHIPS. Sometimes her family and her manager Ramon have confessional scenes too, and they’re always saying how wonderful Georgina is. The entire purpose of the series is to paint Georgina as a glamorous and doting mother and partner who has worked very hard to land the cover of Vogue Portugal. And you know what? I respect that. GOOD VIBES ONLY.
I have to go. I’ve over-welcomed my stay in a coffee shop and must return home. Please pray I don’t trip on the sidewalk xox
